Isaiah’s Vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem

Isa 1:1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
Isaiah was a SEER. He had visions from God. Vision =seeing [chazon]  came from a dream, a revelation or an oracle. This was from an estatic state or a prophecy revealed in the night. He was a Seer with “prophetic Perception”.

which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem…….

The Southern Kingdom from 740-680 B.C. Isaiah outlived Hezekiah by a few years note 37:38  records the death of Sennacherib in 681 B.C. Hezekiah was succeeded by his wicked son, Manasseh in 686 B.C.

Assyria had grown to great influence and power under Tiglath-Pileser who conquered westward even including the Northern Kingdom of Israel.

The Lord’s INDICTMENT against the Rebellious Nation of JUDAH.

Isa 1:2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for Jehovah has spoken, I have nursed and brought up sons, and they have rebelled against Me.
Isa 1:3 The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; but Israel does not know; My people do not understand.
Isa 1:4 Woe, sinful nation, a people heavy with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, sons who corrupt! They have forsaken Jehovah; they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger; they have gone away backward.
Here in true poetic fashion Isaiah summonses Heaven and Earth to bear witness to the Apostasy, Rebellion, Ingratitude and deep Depravity of God’s Chosen people.

Here there is deep feeling – a bursting forth from the heart of the Prophet like the Song of Moses cp. Deut 32:1, Ps 4:3-4; Ezek. 6:3; and Ezekiel 36:1

Isa 1:3 The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; but Israel does not know; My people do not understand.

They know who is Mater, Owner and provider but Israel who was created miraculously by God out of the loins of Abraham with the Birth of Isaac does not recognise the LORD as his Master, nor Owner of the “People of God.”

Isa 1:4 Woe, sinful nation, a people heavy with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, sons who corrupt! They have forsaken Jehovah; they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger; they have gone away backward. [they have turned their backs on Him].

Isaiah does not pussy-foot around the problem. He says “Ah!” with a threatening sound of harsh Punishment.  He is warning Judah and calls “sin” for what it really is and what are the consequences of their guilt.

a seed of evildoers, MKJV [a brood of evildoers]Just like a broody hen so these people get tohether to hatch up evil.

Brood = [zera] : a seed . a sowing, an offspring or virile semen. A produce of seed sown in a field – or a child or posterity.  Descendants -> a harvest is springing up which is evil.

CHILDREN THAT ARE GIVEN TO CORRUPTION.  What a harvest! The Hebrews who are the Sons of Abraham that are Corrupters. [mashee chiythim from [shachath = to destroy, to lay waste and an invading army. Joshua 22:33 And the thing pleased the sons of Israel. And the sons of Israel blessed God and no more said to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land in which the sons of Reuben and Gad lived. Eze 26:4 And they shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers. I will also scrape her dust from her and make her like a shining rock.
They had destroyed all virtuous principles and broken down all the barriers to vice with corrupt morals Gen 6:2 They corrupted others by their example. Judges 2:12 And they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt. And they followed other gods of the gods of the people who were around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked Jehovah to anger. Zep 3:7 I said, Surely you will fear Me; you will receive instruction; then her dwelling shall not be cut off, all that I appointed for her. But they rose early, corrupting all their doings.
they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger; They have despised the Holy One. Prov 1:3; 5:12; 15:5 they blasphemed They incited the Lord to anger by their despising of HIM.
